Chicken and broccoli was the answer
Five years ago, when both our daughters were confirmed carnivores, we used to eat chicken about eleven times a week. And broccoli. Chicken and broccoli was the answer, to the question; ‘What’s for supper, lunch, breakfast?’ Just when I thought I had run out of ways to cook chicken, Diana Henry published her delicious book ‘A Bird in the Hand’ - Chicken recipes for every day and every mood. Hundreds of them.
Now of course, Ava is a fully fledged vegetarian, whilst Ella has signed up to pescatarianism, which with my flexitarianism and Bee’s ‘not that bothered’, makes for interesting meal times in the Simcock household. Definitely more diverse.
Thankyou to everyone that responded to Bee's Email! All your feedback has been gratefully received. The gist of most of the feedback was that you all want things you cant be faffed with making at home so we thought you deserved the Paella which has about 600 ingredients.
We are also doing the frozen dishes again this week, all of which are cooked fresh & simply frozen so are no less delicious than our fresh menu, they are just less time critical so we can produce a wider range for you.
CHICKEN FORESTIERE £8.50
This week I’m harking back to the days of that feathered friend in the guise of Chicken Forestiere. A lovely chicken stew with dried wild mushrooms, home-made chicken stock, vegetables, Madeira and double cream.
SAFFRON & GARLIC MASH £3.00
SHREDDED SAVOY CABBAGE £2.50
Both the mash and the cabbage work really well with the chicken dish.
SEAFOOD PAELLA £10.50
Penelope Casas published ‘The Foods and Wines of Spain’ in 1979. It’s an absolute bible for Spanish cooking, mine is battered and in pieces, the cover was lost years ago. The recipes are so authentic even though they, irritatingly use ‘cups’ and ‘pounds’ as measures. It’s a delight to delve into, I’ve been making paella ever since and if I say so myself, I do knock out the best dish this side of Valencia.
BULGUR, TOMATO, AUBERGINE, LEMON YOGHURT £6.50
From Ottolenghi – ‘Simple’ I don’t know when this book came out, I spotted it in a friend’s house in Barcelona and had to buy it, so I now have about nine Ottolenghi cook books.
APPLE & BLACKBERRY CRUMBLE £5.00
This needs no introduction, it does what it says on the tin. Spoon some ice cream on the side.
